KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- Bankers have welcomed Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz's reappointment as the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia.
"Tan Sri Dr Zeti is not only respected by the Malaysian banking fraternity but also by the international banking and financial community," said Association of Banks in Malaysia chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar said in a statement Thursday.
In congratulating the governor on behalf of the banking fraternity and Maybank, Abdul Wahid who is also Maybank president and chief executive officer said that over the years, the financial sector had continued to strengthen on account of sound monetary and economic policies adopted by Bank Negara.
"We in the banking fraternity will continue to play our part in funding economic growth and maintaining a sound, resilient and efficient financial system," he said.

Bank Negara Malaysia is pleased to announce that His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the reappointment of Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz as Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia for a term of 5 years from 1 May 2011.
